Jamie Carragher has admitted he does not think Liverpool are that good a team after their Premier League title hopes were left in tatters by Everton on Wednesday night.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored either side of half-time to condemn the Reds to another defeat. Jurgen Klopp's team now sit three points behind leaders Arsenal and could drop down to third if Manchester City beat Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday night.

By the time City have played all of their games in hand, Liverpool could be five points adrift of the leaders and Carragher has admitted he thinks the title race is over for his old club. Focusing on the quality of the Reds' squad, the former defender gave an honest verdict.

He told Sky Sports: "It’s not just the points. It’s the form that Liverpool are in.

"They have dropped 10 points in the last seven games. Man City are on a different level to Liverpool this season and I think Arsenal are edging Liverpool as well.

"I actually think this season, I would say in the last six to eight weeks when you are talking of the top three going for the title, it's almost been a hope rather than a belief. I don’t feel, certainly this season from August to now, that I have been watching a title-winning team.

"In some ways, I think they have overachieved this team because I don’t think they are actually that good. I don’t mean that as a criticism, they have done brilliantly well but because it’s Klopp’s last season, it almost feels like you have to do it because this is the end.

"But if Klopp was staying for another two or three years, this would be seen as a great building block to then go on. What Liverpool have done this season, they have lost four games in the last 44 in the Premier League.

"Even though I am gutted they lost tonight and the title has gone, I am finding it too hard to be critical because the team and the quality of the players they have got, they have overperformed in some ways this season and they are not quite good enough. When it comes to the crunch, they have come up a little short."

As mentioned, Klopp is set to depart Anfield at the end of the season with Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot the new favourite to become his successor.
