The Italian-born Spain international has been absent since he sustained an injury late on during last month’s bad-tempered Merseyside derby following a bad tackle from Everton’s Richarlison.

Liverpool supporters will be hoping that Thiago Alcantara’s name is in the starting line-up for the game against Leicester City on Sunday – or among the substitutes, at least.

While Thiago has yet to properly take flight as a Liverpool player, it is unlikely that anyone at Anfield will have any real concerns when it comes to his unfortunate injury record.

But Reds manager Jurgen Klopp, in his pre-match press conference on Friday, refused to rule out a return for the midfielder when his side welcomes former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and his team.

But the club’s injury tally is lengthening, which means they are going to need Thiago back in action sooner rather than later.

Interestingly, he went on to make the most appearances (43) of his Bayern career during the 2018/2019 season.

But Thiago proved his boss wrong and made his comeback three months later in a 2-1 win at Wolfsburg.
