The former Liverpool defender has admitted on many occasions that he was an Everton supporter as a youngster.

Despite his deep-rooted Everton beginnings, Carragher is undoubtedly a Liverpool legend having stayed with the club for the duration of his playing career.

While playing for the club, the centre-back claimed nine major trophies.

Carragher's senior debut for Liverpool came against Middlesbrough in January 1997 as a substitute and in the years that have followed, he has spoken highly of his time at Liverpool and now calls himself a Red.

In an episode of Sky's The Overlap ahead of the Merseyside Derby last weekend, Carragher was asked about the moment his allegiances changed from the blue half of Merseyside to the red.

Manchester United legend and TV pundit Gary Neville asked Carragher about the age he started to feel he was no longer an Everton fan.

I was still an Everton fan when I was playing in the youth team."

An anecdote shared by the Bootle-born ex footballer centred around him getting stick for cheering Everton on while in the presence of other Liverpool players and coaches.

He told The Overlap panel: "So we [Liverpool] win the youth cup and the next season, first game of the season, Liverpool are playing away at Middlesbrough.

"It's five subs, the day [Fabrizio] Ravanelli got a hat-trick against Liverpool.

His dad told him "this has got to stop."

Before Carragher's dad spoke to him about his behaviour and support of Everton, Liverpool legend Ronnie Moran had already pulled him to one side, along with the youth team coaches.

When playing in the reserve team league, Carragher was getting on the team coach to head home and at the same time Everton were playing a replay of an FA cup game.
