Liverpool are bracing themselves as clubs prepare bids for some of their stars.

The Reds have spent almost £200m this summer and although under no pressure to sell, they want to, so they can trim down their squad.

Liverpool also know they can get some big money for players who do not get much game time or players who Arne Slot is not fully convinced by, meaning their departures would make sense.

Some of the names being linked with a move away will certainly upset a few fans and could cause a feeling of regret later down the line, but it seems to be a risk the Reds are willing to take.

There is one player in particular who looks very likely to go, much to the disbelief of many as he could become a real star, and West Ham are beginning to ramp up their interest.

Harvey Elliott’s situation at Liverpool is a very tricky one to navigate.

The Englishman clearly has an abundance of quality, but he is just not quite at the level needed to play week in, week out.

The 22-year-old made just two Premier League starts last season and his chances of making more next season are even slimmer now with the arrival of Florian Wirtz.

Selling him, therefore, makes a lot of sense no matter how hard that may be, and journalist Alex Crook has revealed that West Ham are ready to step up their interest.

“With Harvey Elliott, Liverpool aren’t going to let him go for £20m to £25m,” Crook said on the Premier League All Access podcast.

“I know West Ham are planning talks with them this week.

I’m not sure they’ve got deep enough pockets to pay what Liverpool would want.”

Liverpool have two clever demands if they are to let Elliott go, with the first being that they would be happy to sell for £40m as long as they had a buy-back option.

If not, the Reds would want £50m, a fee that may prove too steep for the Hammers who are keen to replace Mohamed Kudus with the Englishman.

They certainly have the money after his £55m departure, but whether they choose to spend it all on Elliott is yet to be decided.

Elliott truly is a “special” player and the Reds will likely rue the decision to sell him to some extent in the future, but a move would suit both clubs.

Liverpool will make a tidy profit on a player who they cannot guarantee game time for, while the Englishman will be able to become a star at his next team and really take his career to the next level.

The boyhood Red has proven himself at Under-21 level, and with the World Cup fast approaching, he would love to be a part of the team for the very first time, although he would only get this chance with a move away.

It will certainly be bittersweet but departing Anfield for a club like West Ham could prove very beneficial, although taking the slightly lower fee with the buy-back clause included may suit Liverpool the best.
