Tuchel replied: "I agree 100 per cent!

"Everything to play with high energy, but we don't see it often enough on the international level is my observation.

"That's exactly the point, and exactly what we focus on, basically how we are on the job, 'how can we inject this massively'.

"Maybe you know [Pearce] better than me, I think it's massively about connections with the team, it generates a genuine joy to play together that we find easily every time we come to camp, that it's not every time a new start.

"So, it was a little bit of a false new start that was brought on by me, the coaching staff, because we brought on new players, invited new players and tried new formations.

"Maybe I have to take this responsibility, but we are looking deeply into exactly that - 'How can we transfer this joy that the guys have, and the quality, into the joy to express themselves on the field.

"I agree with you 100 per cent, I enjoyed the energy from the bench, the three substitutions after 58/60 minutes, and the two substitutions after 70 minutes made me directly connect with the team on your level, because I thought 'oh, what's happening now'.

"We suddenly have courage, we are half open in open body positions, we turn, we try to play upfront, we create deliveries, so it was a completely different dynamic."

Tuchel told talkSPORT: "It's not so easy because now I have to digest, now I have maybe a better insight.

"I already have a better idea of where to go next, but like you said, it's not the players coming in, in the next hour, and I can direct it towards them, and also give them the outlook and perspective of this is where we are going from now.

"This is very, very different - I think, and I'm still convinced, that the first camp was a big success, everything that we did, and started building.

"We did some experiments in the second camp, not everything was bad - there were some good spells in it during this week.

"But, of course, the two games were not good enough.

"It's a hard learning, and a difficult learning, but it brings clarity every match that we play together, everything that we try brings clarit,y and it will help us to mould the team and will help us to find solutions."

Thomas Tuchel joined talkSPORT's England correspondent Faye Carruthers post-match following the 3-1 defeat to Senegal.

Asked what he's learnt since that interview, Tuchel added: "New insights - not everything I can tell from the public.

"If I don't like it after a defeat, it has to be put into context, so we tried 21 players in 72 hours, we faced a very strong opponent who were ready to make history, who played the opportunity to win the friendly in June with more hunger than us.

"I think they had a clear target, I know from the players that I know from Senegal that they had a clear target to make history; to beat England for the first time, they had something bigger than just a friendly, and this is how they acted.

"I'm not saying that we had the wrong attitude.

"I felt us committed, I felt us focused and well-prepared and ready for the same match, and still, you could see that we lacked connections on the pitch.

"You could see that we lacked connections between the players in terms of distances, and combinations with each other.

"But also in terms of communication, and in terms of joy in major parts of the match.

Deserved, by the way."

Kyle Walker and Jordan Henderson should be nowhere near the England squad.

That's the view of ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O'Hara, who has had his say on the Three Lions following Tuesday night's shock 3-1 defeat to Senegal at the City Ground.

The pair boast a combined 180 England caps, but a combined age of 69, and their form has taken a dip in the last 18 months.

Manchester City shipped out Walker to AC Milan for the second half of the 2024/25 season, while Henderson is currently on the books at Ajax following a spell in Saudi Arabia with Al Ettifaq.

Speaking on talkSPORT Drive, former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy insisted that England are currently a level below World Cup rivals such as Argentina, France and Spain, stating Tuchel has 'a year to get this right.'

His comments led O'Hara to say: "I think he needs to bin some of the old heads.

"I think he needs to accept that this is a new era of new, fresh, young players.

"Morgan Gibbs-White, [Eberechi] Eze, Cole Palmer, these players are the future of England now.

"And I think you've got to make some big decisions going into this World Cup next year and go, 'Kyle Walker, thank you mate, It's time to move on.'

"There's certain players… 'Jordan Henderson, sorry, it's time to move on.'"

talkSPORT understands Darwin Nunez is likely to leave Liverpool this summer.

It's thought the club are seeking north of €70million (£59m), with the 25-year-old drawing interest from Saudi Arabia.

Al-Hilal contacted Liverpool on Monday to ask for the conditions of a deal.

Al-Nassr had a €70m bid rejected in January, and Liverpool are using this number as a yardstick for valuation.

FSG's CEO of Football, Michael Edwards, and sporting director Richard Hughes decided not to sell Nunez mid-season, believing the Uruguay international would be better served helping Liverpool win the Premier League title.

Liverpool paid a club-record £85m for Nunez when he joined from Benfica in June 2022.

I've got that in the back of my mind."

Kendry Páez will join Strasbourg on a loan deal from Chelsea, talkSPORT understands.

The 18-year-old midfielder joined the Blues from Independiente del Valle for £15m in a deal pre-agreed back in June 2023.

Paez has already visited Cobham to train and spent time with Strasbourg.

The player was expecting to go to the Club World Cup last week and then have his future decided.

However, he was left out of Enzo Maresca's travelling party and is now set to join Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg.

talkSPORT understands Paez is understood to be disappointed as summer plans have been altered.

Senegal's manager Pape Thiaw said of the win over England: “First thing I would like to do is to congratulate my players for the tremendous performance and mindset that they showed out on the pitch.

"I think that from the very beginning they set out the display they wanted to win.

“I think we showed a great mentality, we came back, managed to equaliser just before half-time.

"Then the second half half we were able to pose our own game a little bit more, we scored the two goals in order to win, what was a great victory for us.

It was great to be able to win here, at a country imbued with football.”

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Tijjani Reijnders in a £46.3million deal from AC Milan.

The 26-year-old is coming off the back of a brilliant 2024/25 season which saw him named as the Serie A Midfielder of the Year.

He fired in 15 goals - the most of his career in a single season -while also chipping in with five assists from his 54 outings in all competitions.

Reijnders has put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Etihad - and has been signed in time to compete in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which starts this weekend.

Speaking of his move, the Netherlands international told City's website: "I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City.

"City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players and outstanding facilities.

"Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles, and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.??

“It is also a dream come true to play in the Premier League.

"This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years and it’s an inspiration to follow in their footsteps.??

“I am really looking forward to getting going, meeting the other players and showing the Manchester City fans what I can do.”

Chelsea have reportedly made the surprising call to leave goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic at home for the Club World Cup.

The Telegraph reports Petrovic is one of four Blues stars to have been left out of the travelling party.

The report adds Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix and Axel Disasi are the others who will watch the Club World Cup from afar.

Petrovic's omission is somewhat surprising given the club's failed pursuit of Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The Blues were unwilling to meet Milan's demands for Maignan, as talkSPORT understood the Italian side wanted £25million for the goalkeeper.

Petrovic spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at French side Strasbourg, one of Chelsea's sister clubs.

With Petrovic out, it means the Blues' travelling goalkeeping contingent will be Robert Sanchez, Filip Jorgensen and Mike Penders.

A surprising figure has urged Tottenham to reverse their decision to sack Ange Postecoglou.

Nick Reece is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the city where Postecoglou grew up in Australia.

But despite being on the other side of the world, he believes Postecoglou deserves a chance to take the club into next season.

"On behalf of the people of Melbourne, and Premier League fans around the world, I call on @spursofficial to reconsider its decision to sack coach Ange Postecoglou," Reece wrote on Instagram.

He added: "Don't let Tottenham be known as the team that is allergic to silverware.

"Let Ange lead the players onto greatness in next year's Premier League campaign."

Sadly for Reece and all other Postecoglou fanatics, his wish is highly unlikely to come true as Brentford boss Thomas Frank is poised to take over in the coming days.

Signed, sealed and delivered.

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Rayan Cherki from Lyon, with the 21-year-old signing a five-year deal.

He has joined in time to be a part of City's squad for the Club World Cup.

“This is a dream for me,” Cherki said.

The responsibility to help the team continue winning is something I want to embrace.

“I would only leave Lyon for a project I really believe in and everything at City suggests I can develop my game and help the team be successful in the future."

Five clubs are reportedly in the mix for Alejandro Garnacho as Manchester United slapped a £70m price tag on the winger.

The Independent reports Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa are keeping tabs on Garnacho.

Napoli came close to a move for Garnacho in January but the transfer ultimately collapsed due to disagreements with the proposed fee.

The report claims Villa's interest is the biggest surprise but would be heavily dependent on a potential sale of Morgan Rogers, who enjoyed a breakout season at Villa Park.

As for Leverkusen, Garnacho could reunite with former Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag as he was recently appointed as manager of the German side.

United will look to sell Garnacho to help fund a summer overhaul, which has already begun with the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.

Brentford ace Bryan Mbeumo also looks poised to seal a switch to Old Trafford and is understood to have agreed personal terms with United.

Al Hilal's deal to sign N'Golo Kante on a short-term deal could collapse due to fan backlash, talkSPORT understands.

Kante is on the books for Saudi Pro League rivals Al Ittihad.

However, Al Hilal are the only Saudi side to qualify for the Club World Cup and are keen to take Kante with them.

Kante has agreed to a deal and it is now down to the clubs to finalise negotiations.

But it remains to be seen whether they will pay attention to what promises to be a furious reaction from fans in Saudi Arabia over a deal constructed between two rivals.

Al Hilal first face Real Madrid at the Club World Cup before their other group fixtures against Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg.

The expectation is that Kante will then return to Al Ittihad for the 2025/26 season.

Al Hilal and Al Ittihad are both controlled by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
