Thomas Tuchel revealed Trent Alexander-Arnold was left out of the latest England squad because he prefers to have a "tighter squad".

The ex-Liverpool ace was a surprise exclusion from the England squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia.

Alexander-Arnold was named in Tuchel's previous squad and hasn't sustained an injury during the first couple of weeks of the La Liga season.

When quizzed on his decision to leave the Real Madrid man out of the squad, Tuchel replied: "We decided for a tighter, more competitive squad, we didn't use all 23 players.

There is no doubt I am a big fan of Trent and Jack Grealish.

"Big players and big personalities, always in the mix.

The competition is up."
