That fact has been underlined further three times already this month, with Diogo Jota having signed a long-term contract extension last Tuesday, breakout pre-season star Stefan Baj?eti? having confirmed yesterday that he has agreed a new deal, and now news of Harvey Elliott signing an extension (via the ECHO) for another reward for his progress too.

While the clamour for a signing to cover injuries that might clear up in a few weeks is understandable, Liverpool are focused far more on the bigger picture — even if another transfer deal this summer cannot be 100 per cent, cast iron ruled out.

Elliott only signed a new deal 13 months ago, which at the time was a 'long-term' extension thought to be for five years.

Tying players down, of course, is a lot easier when the team is performing to such a high standard and there is no sign of Liverpool dropping off in quality any time soon.

It is often said that football works in cycles and success will not last forever, but Liverpool are currently firmly in a virtuous circle.

While they were sold for good money that being the case, Liverpool would rather have more control where possible — and being settled as a squad can only be a major edge.
