Liverpool’s progression to the next round of the Carabao Cup did not come without its critics of star players.
The Reds defeated Championship side Southampton 2-1 at Anfield thanks to goals from Alexander Isak and substitute Hugo Ekitike, who was instantly shown a second yellow card for removing his shirt late on.
Isak joined Liverpool from Newcastle in a British record transfer fee of £125million, and was restored to the starting XI after Hugo Ekitike was preferred against Everton.
Liverpool have a perfect record this season, having won all their opening five Premier League games and having beat Atletico Madrid in their first Champions League match.

Arne Slot made 11 changes for the visit of Southampton, but the side still had more than enough quality to win the match.
Frimpong, who joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, was deemed to be having a horror performance by Tim Sherwood.

“We have barely seen Isak.

Like on the other left flank between Milos Kerkez and Robertson it does not seem clear whose Slot number one choice is in the position.
Frimpong’s poor showing against Southampton will not have done his chances for a start against Crystal Palace any favours.
