Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes were said to be interested in Ruben Amorim, and it was claimed that he was the absolute favourite to become the next Liverpool manager.

All things pointed towards the 39-year-old moving to Anfield, but those links have gone quiet over the last few days after Amorim flew to England to hold talks with West Ham United.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Feyenoord boss Arne Slot since, and reports have claimed that he is the frontrunner for the Reds job.

Nothing is agreed just yet and there could be more drama in the coming days and weeks, but as things stand, Slot is said to be ‘keen’ on a move to Anfield.

As for Amorim, Fabrizio Romano has claimed today that a deal to bring the Sporting Lisbon boss to Liverpool is ‘difficult’ and ‘unlikely’ as things stand.

Firstly, speaking about Slot, Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing: “Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is now a strong candidate for the job of replacing Jurgen Klopp this summer.

“He’s considered already an excellent manager with a very good style, but also with potential to make special things also at the highest level possible in the Premier League.”

Addressing the situation surrounding Amorim, Romano said: “As for Ruben Amorim, some reports recently suggested that everything was verbally agreed between the Sporting Lisbon manager and Liverpool, but I’m told that this was never the case.

Ruben Amorim and Arne Slot are both excellent options for the Reds.

The former has done a remarkable job at Sporting Lisbon and is about to win the league title there.
