Tottenham may have missed the signing of one key player to finish the jigsaw that Thomas Frank attempted to assemble this summer.

Xavi Simons arrived at Tottenham on a £51million deal, joining Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus on permanent deals, as well as the loan signings of Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani.

It has not been a perfect start to the 2025-26 campaign, but after Tottenham drew 2-2 with Brighton, a current third-place standing in the Premier League table is a huge improvement on last term.

Despite a positive start, there is still an overall feeling that something is missing in the squad, and while that may change as the season continues, the Lilywhites definitely missed out on a world-class signing.

Nico Paz has played a starring role for Como this season.

It is no secret that Tottenham are huge fans of Nico Paz of Como, having had a £60million bid rejected for the Argentine’s services during the summer window, and that is looking more and more like a failure.

The 21-year-old notched six goals and eight assists in 35 appearances last season, and already this season, the playmaker has two goals and three assists in five games.

In fact, according to Squawka, Paz has created the most big chances (5) of anyone in Serie A this season, with Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco and Juventus’ Kenan Yildiz just behind on four each.

It has been a sharp rise to fame for the youngster, but with four international caps to his name for Argentina, it is unlikely that he would have struggled to adapt to the Premier League.

With 11 chances created, Kudus is the clear leader in North London, shortly followed by right-back Pedro Porro with nine, before a huge drop off to Richarlison in third with four chances created.

Simons has only just managed to get into the starting lineup, so in a few weeks, those stats may have changed.

Until then, fans will continue to daydream about what could have been with Paz.

His current boss, Cesc Fabregas, has been hugely complimentary of the player, labelling him “special” back in October [Football Italia], and those comments only appear to have spurred him on at Como.

There may be another opportunity to sign the player in the future, but if he continues his current form, the previous £60m will look like an absolute bargain compared to what he might be worth.
