Thomas Frank’s plans for the upcoming Premier League season have been significantly altered by Tottenham star James Maddison’s long-term injury.

The former Leicester City man was a key player for Spurs under former boss Ange Postecoglou, notching 12 goals and 10 assists last term.

However, the attacking midfielder will face a long-term absence after suffering an ACL injury in a friendly with Newcastle United on Sunday, 3 August.

Tottenham drew 1-1 with the Magpies last weekend, but went on to lose 4-0 to Bayern Munich on Thursday, 7 August.

Tottenham have endured a largely frustrating transfer window after former transfer target Morgan Gibbs-White signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest.

But one successful piece of business conducted by the North Londoners this summer was the acquisition of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham.

“The 28-year-old missed the end of last season with a knee injury but returned last month to feature under the new head coach, Thomas Frank.

His creative role could be filled by Mohammed Kudus.”

Kudus’ West Ham exploits suggest that he is capable of performing well for Tottenham under Frank, and is set to feature in the UEFA Super Cup against Champions League winners PSG on Wednesday, 13 August.

The 25-year-old’s attacking ability has become even more important courtesy of Maddison’s latest fitness setback.

However, to effectively replace Maddison, Spurs should still turn to the transfer market and acquire a new playmaker ahead of the Premier League season.

Amid the former Leicester man’s injury, Tottenham could sign Jack Grealish, who endured a lack of game time at Manchester City last term.

Grealish will be eager to feature for England in next summer’s World Cup, and a move to North London should be exactly what the 29-year-old needs to get his career moving in the right direction again.

The ex-Aston Villa man’s ability to play as both a winger and an attacking midfielder makes him an ideal option, with Frank looking to bolster his ranks, while also coping with Maddison’s setback.

Meanwhile, Spurs have been backed to sell Richarlison before the transfer window shuts in a Tottenham News exclusive.
