Tottenham could be about to go back in for Savinho as Man City up their asking price for the Brazilian to £60million.

Adding to their attacking signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham earlier this summer, the Lilywhites are now pursuing another right-winger.

Football Insider understands that as of 11 August Tottenham were in advanced talks to sign Savinho after offering an initial £43m bid.

The Brazilian has only completed one season at the club, making the move all the more unexpected as the new season is soon to dawn upon us.

Despite some sources believing that Man City have closed off any more enquiries from Spurs for their winger, an increased offer can change minds very quickly.

In a report by the Daily Mail (11 August), after “preliminary talks” had been held between the two clubs over the South American, the Cityzens have decided to request a higher fee for his services.

The Mail believes that it is “expected” to cost “around £60m” for the blue half of Manchester to part with the former Girona attacker.

If the Lilywhites were to meet the asking price, the number 26 would be the seventh signing of the summer transfer window for Thomas Frank, and they are expected to return with a new offer.

Football Insider verdict

Undoubtedly, the ex-PSV starlet is a hugely promising wide man, yet, given Spurs have a plethora of wide options, it seems to be a strange signing to pursue.

After the potentially season-threatening injury to James Maddison, along with Dejan Kulusevski’s absence, an attacking-midfielder is what the club needs to prioritise.

The reluctance to pin down a new number 10 suggests that there may be a revival of a central creative role for Wilson Odobert after Ange Postecoglou briefly experimented with that idea.

Alternatively, Kudus may be pushed into the centre-attacking midfield role given his impressive ability to make line-breaking runs from deep to get in on-goal one-on-one with the keeper.

However, with just a matter of days until the new season, it remains to be seen who will assume the midfield magician role.

The UEFA Supercup against PSG may provide some answers as to who Frank goes with, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Daniel Levy coughs up the dosh to get a much-needed creator before the window shuts.
