Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are looking to add to their squad after spending the first half of the transfer window getting players out the door, Simon Collings reports.
Arteta has been working with a bloated playing group this season, so much so that he was forced to leave Mesut Ozil and Sokratis Papastathopoulos out of the club’s Europa League and Premier League squads for the current campaign.
Sokratis has now left the club after Arsenal agreed to mutually terminate his contract on Wednesday, while Ozil has come to a similar agreement and is close to joining Fenerbahce.
Sead Kolasinac has also departed for Schalke on loan and William Saliba, who was left out of the Europa League squad, is spending the rest of the season at Nice.
And, having got players out the door, Arteta is now keen for Arsenal to add to their ranks ahead of the transfer deadline on February 1.
“We are in that process right now, we have done the first part more or less and we are focusing now on the second phase,” he said.
“Obviously this market and the context makes it difficult, but we are looking at options and we will see what we can do.”
