Trent Alexander-Arnold has been labelled ‘David Beckham and Kevin De Bruyne at right-back’ by Gary Neville as his position debate raged on.

The former Manchester United defender was discussing the Liverpool hero with Anfield legend Jamie Carragher on Monday Night Football and the debate surrounding his best position on the pitch.

“When Trent is playing in midfield, he’s playing in that inside right ‘De Bruyne position’.

He is David Beckham and Kevin De Bruyne at right-back.

“That is a completely different kettle of fish, that is not where Trent Alexander-Arnold needs to be.

“I’ve heard the argument ‘he’s playing in midfield for Liverpool this season anyway with the fact he’s going inside all the time’.

What isn’t up for debate is Alexander-Arnold’s skill and incredible passing ability, and Neville – a right-back of a different breed during his playing days for Manchester United – waxed lyrical about him.
