Trent Alexander-Arnold has seemingly dropped a subtle hint about his Liverpool future following Arne Slot’s appointment as the Reds’ new head coach.

The Liverpool vice-captain is out of contract in the summer of 2025 and is reportedly attracting interest from Real Madrid.

But with Slot, sporting director Richard Hughes, and FSG CEO of Football Michael Edwards officially only starting in their new roles on June 1, the 25-year-old has been made to wait for any resolution regarding his future.

A boyhood Reds fan, it would be a surprise if Alexander-Arnold called time on his Anfield career.

But entering the final year of his current contract, uncertainty regarding his future persists as a result.

It seems likely that one of Hughes’ first tasks will be to tie down the right-back to a new Liverpool contract, with the Reds surely loathing any possibility of losing Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer in 12 months’ time.

And while they could theoretically look to cash in on the defender this summer if an extension seemed unlikely, the defender has seemingly committed his future to the club for another year at least.

"It was a good season, built on last season, got better as a team, challenged for the title, took it far and we improved,” he told the club website.

Take the positives and move forward and hopefully again next season."

In his first season as Liverpool vice-captain, the Reds lifted the League Cup after beating Chelsea at Wembley back in February.

However, the defender would miss the game through injury.

By the time of his return, Liverpool’s campaign had started to peter out as they suffered premature exits in both the Europa League and FA Cup, and saw their Premier League title challenge run out of steam.

Yet, having insisted that Jurgen Klopp’s final campaign with the club was a ‘good season’, Alexander-Arnold is clearly looking to push on again under Slot in 2024/25.

The England international is not the only player to have publicly committed his future to Liverpool for another season, with Mohamed Salah doing similar last week ahead of his own contract expiring next summer.

Following Slot’s confirmation as the Reds’ new head coach, the Egyptian wrote on social media: “We know that trophies are what count and we will do everything possible to make that happen next season.

Our fans deserve it and we will fight like hell.”

While such admissions have little reassurance regarding Alexander-Arnold and Salah’s futures beyond the end of their contracts as things stand, it would at least appear that Slot can expect to call upon the services of both during his first season in charge at Liverpool.
