It’s official, and straight from the source - Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving Liverpool this summer.

The Reds’ vice-captain has confirmed his decision to leave Anfield at the end of his contract, bringing an end to his 20-year association with his boyhood club.

As it has been for some time now, Real Madrid looks to be his most likely next destination.

There is no escaping that the majority of Liverpool fans have known this day was coming.

But, even after the high of winning the Premier League title just over seven days ago, the 26-year-old’s announcement still came as a bitter blow for many Liverpool fans.

And Alexander-Arnold may not have helped himself with the timing of his announcement - or at least that’s what Gary Neville thinks.

The former Manchester United captain sent a clear warning to Alexander-Arnold just two weeks ago after he scored the winner at Leicester to put Liverpool on the brink of the title, urging him to confirm his decision before the Reds wrapped things up.

“He maybe just doesn’t feel the love and sense the love that maybe others do,” Neville said on his own podcast.
