The England international then kissed the Liverpool badge after receiving his Premier League winners' medal.

Speaking during the title celebrations, Alexander-Arnold told Sky Sports: "I didn't know what to expect stepping out at Anfield after what had happened a few weeks ago.

"I wanted to play for the club one last time, I said it to the manager."

The defender had been booed during the previous home match against Arsenal after coming off the bench.

Alexander-Arnold continued: "From the bottom of my heart I hope that one day the fans and supporters will recognise what I did for the team.

It is the second league title of his career following the previous triumph in 2020 under Jurgen Klopp.

The German coach, who left the club last summer, also made an Anfield return on the final day.

Klopp was seen cheering his old side on in the stands having spent almost nine years in the dugout himself.
