Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to miss "days rather than weeks" after initial fears over the Liverpool star's injury weren't as bad as first thought.

Alexander-Arnold was substituted in the second half of Liverpool's victory over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, with Conor Bradley coming off the bench to replace him.

But according to The Times, the injury sustained by Alexander-Arnold isn't believed to be a serious one.

After undergoing a set of scans, it's said Alexander-Arnold could be back in action for Liverpool against Everton in next week's rearranged Merseyside derby.

That would mean the English international is forced to sit out of Thursday night's crunch League Cup semi-final against Tottenham - a match Liverpool have to win to keep alive hopes of defending their title.

Spurs will carry over a surprise 1-0 advantage from their first-leg meeting earlier this year, with an FA Cup clash against Plymouth Argyle to follow at the weekend.

But considering hearts had been in mouths when Alexander-Arnold went down injured against Bournemouth, the prospect of him not missing any Premier League matches at all will be considered a positive outcome by Arne Slot and Liverpool fans alike.

Slot had commented on the injury in the aftermath of the weekend win, saying: “He sat on the floor and we had to take him off – he felt something.

“I cannot tell you exactly what it is and how bad it is of course because we are one hour after the game, but it’s never a good sign if a player is asking for a substitution.

“This is not a fact but I would be surprised if he plays on Thursday, but let’s hope he’s back with us as soon as possible.”

Away from the Alexander-Arnold injury, Joe Gomez, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota have all returned from problems of their own in recent weeks, with Slot boasting a close-to-fully fit squad.

It comes ahead of what promises to be a hectic few weeks and months for Dutch manager, given his side are still fighting strong on all four fronts.

With a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, the Reds faithful are dreaming of a second league title in five years.

While heading into the Champions League knockout stages, the six-time winners are favourites to take home a seventh crown come the end of the season.
