The 26-year-old has picked up a hamstring problem that casts serious doubt over whether he'll be available for an emotionally-charged return to Anfield when Real Madrid take on Liverpool in the Champions League on November 4.
The Galacticos star also appears likely to miss the season's first El Clasico against Barcelona on the weekend of October 26, as well as the upcoming England squad announcement – dealing another blow to his World Cup ambitions.
Alexander-Arnold was forced to hobble off within just five minutes of Real Madrid's Champions League encounter with Marseille on Tuesday evening after feeling discomfort.
The England defender posted on social media: "Will be back as soon as possible stronger than before.
See you soon Madridistas."
It's been a difficult opening chapter to Alexander-Arnold's Madrid journey, with the defender making just two La Liga starts and rotating responsibilities with Dani Carvajal.

Carvajal came on for Alexander-Arnold against Marseille but was later sent off as Real Madrid overturned a 1-0 deficit to secure a 2-1 victory.
Real Madrid confirmed in a statement: "Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid medical services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.
Further updates will follow."
Real Madrid are hopeful that Alexander-Arnold's robust physical condition will expedite his recovery, potentially seeing him return in around six weeks rather than the initially projected two months, reports the Mirror.
However, they're hesitant to take any unnecessary risks.
Alexander-Arnold's summer was far from typical, having represented Real Madrid in the FIFA Club World Cup, and like many of his fellow competitors, he has grappled with muscle injuries in the early stages of the season.
Chelsea forward Liam Delap is another player who sustained a muscle injury after the tournament, while it has been a tough baptism for Alexander-Arnold at the Bernabeu.

England manager Thomas Tuchel omitted alexander-Arnold from the most recent squad for matches against Andorra and Serbia, suggesting he now trails behind Reece James and Tino Livramento in the selection hierarchy.
To secure his spot in next summer's World Cup, the full-back must regain his form and fitness and reclaim his place in the England team.
