Trent Alexander-Arnold may have ruffled Thomas Tuchel's feathers by backing Jurgen Klopp for the England manager's role just 12 months ago.
The full-back emerged at Anfield under Klopp's guidance in 2016, subsequently claiming a Premier League crown, an FA Cup, the EFL Cup, a Community Shield and a legendary Champions League alongside the German tactician.
Yet, when Klopp brought the curtain down on his nine-year spell at Anfield at the close of 2023/24 and Gareth Southgate - under whom Alexander-Arnold earned the majority of his 34 England appearances - departed his role with the national side after defeat in the Euro 2024 final, the player was quick to voice his thoughts on Klopp potentially taking charge of the Three Lions.
In conversation with Mirror Football last July, Alexander-Arnold highlighted the similarities between his feelings regarding both Klopp and Southgate's departures from their respective posts, while expressing his enthusiasm for seeing Klopp move into international management.
He said: "It was similar to how I felt when my club manager Jurgen Klopp was leaving.
They were the people who gave me my debuts, and made my dreams come true."
When questioned about the prospect of Klopp leading England, he added: "I enjoyed every moment I worked with him, we shared amazing memories, forged an amazing relationship, an amazing bond.
So, of course, if that were to happen, we would pick up where we left off."
The 26-year-old acknowledged that it seemed unlikely Klopp would take on the role, however, explaining: "I would be surprised if he did take it.
It was clear when he announced when he was leaving, the conversations I have had with him, everything on social media, he seems to be enjoying his time off, so it would be a huge surprise."
Former Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, PSG and Bayern Munich boss Tuchel was appointed as Southgate's successor last October, and Alexander-Arnold's comments about potentially working with Klopp again could have been awkward if the 51 year old had taken any offence.

Fortunately, it looks like Alexander-Arnold's remarks haven't affected his standing with Tuchel, as he was called up for the World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Senegal last month.
He said: "Like every other player, he needs to play and get minutes, and be competitive on the highest level.
