Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool exit hasn’t quite worked out as he’d have wanted it to.

Although Tuchel has tried several different players in the Three Lions’ squad during their World Cup qualifiers, one player has more or less stayed cemented in his position, with that player being Reece James.

The defender has finally returned from injury, and now that he’s back, it’s clear that Tuchel favours the Chelsea captain over Alexander-Arnold.

Probably not.

“As good as he is, he’s got to have a real good run at Real Madrid and produce at Real Madrid to even get back in the England squad.”

Although Liverpool fans were understandably hurt by one of their own wanting to exit Anfield, at the moment, it feels like the Reds got the better end of the stick.

Due to Alexander-Arnold’s exit, Liverpool welcomed Jeremie Frimpong to their ranks in the summer, with Conor Bradley also likely to be given a more prominent role this term.

Both players are much younger than the former Liverpool man and will likely be much cheaper on the Reds’ weekly wage bill.

By the end of the 2025-26 season, it’ll be interesting to see if Alexander-Arnold has actually ended up better off or if he should have just stayed at Liverpool and trusted the process.
