Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed the dressing room reaction to Liverpool’s disappointing Europa League exit in Bergamo on Thursday night.

Liverpool’s campaign in the Europa League came to an abrupt end as they were ousted by Atalanta, marking an underachievement for a team that entered the competition as one of the favorites.

This exit not only represents a substantial setback in what was expected to be a competitive European run but also underscores the finality of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure not culminating with a European trophy.

In his last season, this elimination is particularly poignant, stripping Klopp of the chance to add one more piece of continental silverware to his illustrious managerial cabinet.

The shock defeat shifts all focus to the Premier League, where Liverpool must now channel their energies and salvage their season through domestic success.

Having already won the Carabao Cup, there is still a chance for the Reds to do a double.

Liverpool are currently in third place, two points behind leaders Manchester City and behind Arsenal only on goal difference.

This transition in priorities tests the team’s resilience and Klopp’s ability to motivate his squad following European disappointment.

The Reds’ ability to regroup will be crucial as they aim to secure a strong finish in the league, hoping to transform this setback into a rallying point for the remainder of the season.

But it seems the Liverpool players intend to do just that.

What did Trent Alexander-Arnold say?

Speaking after the match in Bergamo, vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold conveyed the team’s determination to maximize their efforts in the final weeks of the 2023-24 season:

“After the game we spoke quite positively about the rest of the season, we’ve got a month left and we need to give it everything,” said Alexander-Arnold to liverpoolfc.com.

“That’s what we are going to do, we are going to throw everything at it and try to do all that we can.”

“We know it’s not in our hands anymore, but we need to be as good as possible and just be in the best position that we can to capitalise if teams do slip up.”

“We have got a huge game that we need to go and win [on Sunday]?

We have got a very difficult week ahead of us, three away games that we need to win and get results in and that’s our aim now”.

“That’s why on nights like this you need to learn from it quick and settle the dust as quick as possible tonight, get back home and recover and go again on Sunday.”

Liverpool face Fulham on Sunday at Craven Cottage, with kick-off scheduled for 16:30 BST.
