Trent Alexander-Arnold faces a battle to be fit for a reunion with Liverpool in the Champions League and has now hinted that he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Alexander-Arnold was substituted in the opening minutes of Real’s 2-1 victory over Marseille after pulling up sharply and immediately clutching his left hamstring, and there are fears he will be out for around six weeks.
Kylian Mbappe bailed Los Blancos out with two penalties either side of half-time to seal a 2-1 comeback victory over in their European opener, but the match has taken a toll for Xabi Alonso‘s side.
Jude Bellingham watched on from the bench as he prepares to return from shoulder surgery, but he’s set to be replaced in Madrid’s treatment room by one of his England team-mates in Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The former Liverpool defender pulled up just five minutes into the contest before Marseille took the lead, and his replacement Dani Carvajal didn’t fare much better despite Real Madrid coming back to secure the points.
Alexander-Arnold has been tipped to lose his England place to Chelsea’s Reece James even when fully fit after being left out of Thomas Tuchel‘s latest squad, and time on the sidelines will only compound this.

The manner of Alexander-Arnold’s departure from Liverpool angered the club’s fans, as he left in the summer to move to Real in a cut-price £8.4million deal before the expiry of his contract.
A return to Anfield on November 4 was both highly anticipated and also potentially a night where he would feel the force of a backlash from the home supporters.
The 26-year-old’s injury five minutes into Real Madrid’s Champions League opener was worsened by Carvajal’s dismissal for a headbutt on Geronimo Rulli, and Alexander-Arnold has provided an update.
After being diagnosed with a muscle injury in his left leg, the right-back posted on his Instagram story to suggest he faces an extended spell on the sidelines: “Will be back as soon as possible.
See you soon Madridistas”.

Football Insider Verdict
With Bellingham scheduled to be back fit and playing again several weeks ahead of schedule, Madrid will be hoping for similar luck with Alexander-Arnold’s injury as Carvajal faces a Champions League ban.
Carvajal’s ban will likely see him miss Los Blancos’ matches with FC Kairat, Juventus, and Liverpool on 4 November, meaning that a Alexander-Arnold will surely line up at right-back if fit for that trip to Anfield.
A cauldron-like atmosphere awaits regardless of Alexander-Arnold’s presence, but if he is the player assigned to mark Cody Gakpo or potentially Alexander Isak, expect jeers aplenty to ring around Anfield from the Liverpool fans.
