Jude Bellingham said that Trent Alexander-Arnold was finding it difficult to process the news of Diogo Jota's death.

The former Liverpool right-back is currently on Real Madrid duty at the Club World Cup, with Los Blancos due to face Borussia Dormund in a quarter-final on Saturday.

It is not clear whether Alexander-Arnold will play in the fixture as he comes to terms with the shock passing of one of his former teammates.

"It's been a really tough day for him to process," England star Bellingham said.

"Obviously it's a terrible shame and I'm sure everyone, every player, every club, sends their condolences and their love to his family.

"It's a horrible bit of news and we hope that they're grieving and that they have the privacy and the comfort to do so."

Meanwhile, Real Madrid's new manager Xabi Alonso also sent his condolences to Jota's family.

Former Liverpool midfielder Alonso said: "On my own behalf and on behalf of the club, I'd like to send our heartfelt condolences to the families of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva.

"We send them a warm embrace from here

Alexander-Arnold and Jota were teammates for five years

"So, on behalf of the club, we send them strength, encouragement and all our support to his daughter, his children and all the family."

Jota was killed alongside his brother when the car that the pair were traveling in crashed in Spain as the Liverpool forward attempted to make his way back to England ahead of the start of pre-season training next week

Alexander-Arnold was unable to attend due to his club commitments, but a number of other former Liverpool teammates were in attendance, including Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Caoimhin Kelleher.

Current Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk arrived with a floral tribute in his hands, as did Andy Robertson, while Liverpool head coach Arne Slot and several other Reds players also turned out to bid their final farewells to Jota.
