Trent Alexander-Arnold made his first Premier League start for Liverpool against rivals Manchester United in 2017.

He said: "When I called her and told her, she just started crying and that's when I realised it's not just me it is happening to, it is everyone around me as well, which is a good feeling to have.

"She just told me to go on and do the best I can and don't worry about what happens and that's what I did." Alexander-Arnold also shared how the former Liverpool manager waited until midday to tell the young Liverpool star he was in the side.

He shared: "We all stayed over in the hotel in Manchester and I think about 12 in the afternoon, the manager told me I was starting the game and asked if I was ready and I said: 'Yes'.

"From then on I knew I was starting and I think it was a good thing knowing [late] as if I had known the day before, I might not have had the best of sleeps.

So to find out that late on was a good thing."

Today, the Liverpool defender has ended months of speculation over his future by confirming his intention to leave Liverpool when his contract expires next month, with a free transfer to Real Madrid looking likely.

The Reds' vice-captain shared a video to social media, offering fans an explanation.

He announced: "After 20 years at Liverpool Football Club, now is the time for me to confirm that I will be leaving at the end of the season.

"This is easily the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life.

I will forever be in debt to you all.

"But, I have never known anything else and this decision is about experiencing a new challenge, taking myself out of my comfort zone and pushing myself both professionally and personally.

He added: "I’ve given my all every single day I’ve been at this club, and I hope you feel like I’ve given back to you during my time here.

My love for this club will never die."

Alexander-Arnold will leave having won two Premier League titles, two League Cups, an FA Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup and the 2019 Champions League.
