Jürgen Klopp has revealed Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mum was ‘worried’ when the German took over as Liverpool manager, fearing that her son might not get an opportunity under him.
Alexander-Arnold was yet to make his professional debut for Liverpool when Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers back in 2015.
Aged just 17 then, the full-back would have to wait another year to get his opportunity in the first-team.
There was a fear among the parents of the club’s academy players though that Rodgers’ departure, and Klopp’s arrival, would prevent their sons from breaking into the side.
Alexander-Arnold’s emergence soon put that anxiety to rest.

Now 25, Alexander-Arnold has made 309 appearances in total for Liverpool, all under Klopp’s management.
“She told me what she thought when Brendan left and I came in.
“They told her before [that] when your boy is that age you need an English manager because other managers don't look at the academy.
Under Klopp’s guidance, there have been plenty of opportunities for Liverpool’s youngsters to break into the first-team.
The 56-year-old was praised after the club’s Carabao Cup triumph this year for showing faith in a number of the Reds’ academy stars at Wembley.
Alexander-Arnold is the ultimate example of what can be achieved if faith is put in the club’s academy, and hopefully we’ll see even more promising youngsters break into the first-team under the Dutchman’s tutelage.
