Scouser Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to bid farewell to Anfield at the end of this season, marking the end of a memorable stint with his childhood Liverpool.

The West Derby-born star first donned the Reds' colours when he joined their academy at just six years old, quickly climbing through the youth ranks and earning captaincy at various levels.

I want to be a Liverpool player this season [as a minimum] is what I will say."

Jordan Henderson previously assumed the mantle of captaincy after taking over from Anfield icon Steven Gerrard in 2015.

Yet, following Henderson's departure in 2023, the armband was passed not to Alexander-Arnold but to veteran defender Virgil van Dijk, whose future had also been subject to speculations until he inked a fresh two-year deal this April.

With Van Dijk set to wear the captain's armband for the foreseeable future, any ambitions Alexander-Arnold had to lead the team appeared shelved, paving the way for the former vice-captain of 2023 to seek pastures new.

While a new journey will soon be undertaken by Alexander-Arnold, he once admitted that, like many local superstars who have come before him, that the only club for him was the Reds.

"There is nowhere else I'd rather be than Liverpool.

Whether we are winning or losing, we always have their love."

Yet, in the seven years since this admission, things have evidently changed, and with copious amounts of silverware under his belt, it would seem a change of scenery is desired.

The 26-year-old's departure became a talking point as his contract neared its end, casting uncertainty over his future, along with team-mates Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

As rumours linked the defender with a switch to Real Madrid and joining England's rising star Jude Bellingham, both Van Dijk and Salah secured their futures at Anfield.

However, in contrast, Alexander-Arnold opted for a fresh start elsewhere, citing a desire for a new challenge and a different environment as his reasoning for waving goodbye.

Speaking on his departure, he shared with the club: "I think first and foremost, I want to say it's not an easy decision and there's a lot of thought and feeling that has gone into it.

I've been here 20 years now, loved every single minute of it, achieved all my dreams, achieved everything I've ever wanted to here.

"Giving everything day in, day out for 20 years, I've got to a point now where I feel like I need a change, a new challenge for me as a player and as a person.

That’s something I need to do on my personal journey as a person, but also as a player and a professional, to go and challenge myself elsewhere.

"I feel like a challenge in a different environment is something I need to do as a player."
