Liverpool have wrapped up their pre-season preparations as they turn their focus to Sunday’s Community Shield showdown against Crystal Palace.
Arne Slot’s side ended their pre-season on a high note, securing two wins in a double-header against Spanish side Athletic Bilbao at Anfield.
The Reds fielded two different teams across the matches, giving supporters a chance to see the new signings in action.
The Premier League champions delivered an entertaining display, winning 4-1 in the first game and 3-2 in the second.
In the first match, Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez both scored, in what could be their final appearances at Anfield this pre-season.
Federico Chiesa came on as a second-half substitute in the second game after being rested from Liverpool’s own tour of Asia.
All three players could leave before the transfer deadline amid interest from several clubs.
Tyler Morton, who was tipped to leave the club this summer, has completed a permanent transfer to Olympique Lyonnais.
The 22-year-old has signed a long-term deal with the Ligue 1 club after completing his medical on Monday.
According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, Morton’s exit has opened the door for Trey Nyoni as he is now being considered as a full-time member of Liverpool’s first team set-up following a strong pre-season.
Nyoni featured for Arne Slot’s side during their 4-1 friendly win over Athletic Club.
The 18-year-old started at centre-back for a second-string Liverpool side in the first of two pre-season friendlies on Monday, however, he was withdrawn in the 67th minute.
He is one of the Reds’ most exciting academy products in years, breaking into the first team during the 2023/24 season when he was just 16.
Nyoni made five appearances in the 2024/25 season, including one at PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League, making him Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in European competition.
