Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was one of many footballers to share a touching tribute in honour of Diogo Jota.
The Brazilian pledged support to Rute Cardoso in a heartfelt message shared on his personal Instagram account.
“Usually, I post things that make sense, but today, nothing makes sense!
I want to thank my colleagues, Liam and Pete, for being considerate in their coverage of this incredibly tragic event.
There have been some truly beautiful tributes to Diogo from across the footballing world.
I’m particularly struck by the profound impact Diogo’s passing has had on the Liverpool community and how many lives our No.20 has touched.
It’s a stark reminder of how precious and fleeting life is, but also of how much we, the fans, hold footballers like Diogo Jota and Andre Silva in our hearts
In a world where we’re constantly being told there’s a disconnect between the emotional ties of fandom and the increasingly cold, financial realities of the sport – let this be a reminder that we still care and should care.
There are ties that bind us – fans, footballers, and all – and we should never shun them.
You’ll Never Walk Alone.
