Liverpool have begun the defence of their Premier League title.

The Reds have shown in their first three games that other teams in the league will struggle to beat them after showing their title-winning quality already against three top sides.

Their last victory over Arsenal may have been all down to the magic of one Dominic Szoboszlai, but the whole team put in a shift to prevent the Gunners from having enough chances to steal a result.

But after the international break, the next four games will give a clearer indication of how Arne Slot’s team, with all of their summer business boxed off, can perform with multiple competitions simultaneously.

It should not be a problem with the depth in all areas of the pitch, but injuries are likely to haunt them as a fresh injury to Curtis Jones leaves the England international sidelined for Sunday’s game against Burnley.

Although following the international break, there are no other fresh injury worries, as their newest signing, Alexander Isak, could make an appearance from the bench.

There has been much debate around who, out of him and Hugo Ekitike, will start once the Swedish star is at full fitness, with Isak’s arrival a problem for Slot because it increases his choices in the attack.

Mohamed Salah is unlikely to be rotated or replaced by any player due to his legendary ability on the right flank.

The forward line is something to behold with Cody Gakpo battling for his place alongside the rest after being a consistent threat in front of goal, but Troy Deeney believes it is the new record transfer and Salah who will be the ones to win them a back-to-back title.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the former Watford striker, while questioning one aspect of the partnership, believes that if they link up, it could be over for the other title contenders.

Deeney said: “I’m interested to see how he and Mo Salah get on in terms of penalty taking.

There’s that conversation around that.

“Also, Salah likes to cut in and shoot first, doesn’t he?

But if them two can connect, oh my God, Liverpool have more or less wrapped up the title.”

The Englishman did bring up an interesting point around penalty-taking duties due to the arrival of Isak at Anfield.

However, the ‘Egyptian King’ has to be taking the penalties for the team due to his incredible record from the spot, even if the new No.

9 will want to take his place.

While the Swede may come to take his spot with a league penalty record of 11 scored and one missed, the 33-year-old winger has only missed six of his 40 penalties in the English First Division since arriving at the club.

It is that consistency that cannot be understated, but he will have to continue his incredible record from the spot or his place as Liverpool’s future spot kicker may be over.
