Liverpool have been rejected by players in the past but things appear to have worked out rather well.
The Reds are shrewd negotiators in the transfer market so when they put a bid in for a player, they are usually very confident they will join, just like they proved with Florian Wirtz in the summer.
However, they did endure a period where they were seeing players themselves openly reject a move, with every individual, funnily enough, being a holding midfielder.
Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and, most recently, Martin Zubimendi all turned down moves to Anfield, with the latter joining Arsenal this summer.
Of course, there was a bit of uproar when this first came out, with many fans baffled why he would choose to join a side who finished below Liverpool last season.
However, some would consider it a lucky escape, especially after what Troy Deeney has been told by people at the club about the Spaniard.

It is certainly a huge talking point this summer and when the two sides meet next season, it would be fair to assume that Zubimendi may be on the end of some criticism from Reds fans.
However, although the Reds were desperate to get him at the time, people within the club are said to not be too bothered by him joining Arsenal, or at least that is what those close to Deeney have said.

“From what I understand from people I know at Liverpool, they weren’t too disheartened by not getting him,” Deeney said on talkSPORT.

“I think they thought he would slow their game down too much, so it will be interesting to see how Arteta brings him into the fray.”
Whether people within the club genuinely believe that is one thing, or whether there is a slight bitterness is another, with only time able to tell if it will be a huge loss or not.
Zubimendi is going into a very strong midfield so will likely shine in that holding midfield role, with this area on the pitch perhaps vital in where the Premier League trophy will end up at the end of the season.
Reds fans will probably hold their hands up and admit that they were disappointed at the time in not signing the 26-year-old, but now, opinions might have changed.
Failure to sign Zubimendi meant Ryan Gravenberch got the chance to play as the number six, a move that revolutionised the way Liverpool play.
The Dutchman has been nothing short of sensational in his new-found role, with his contributions vital in winning the Premier League.
The 23-year-old won Young Player of the Season too and should have more time on his side than Zubimendi, suggesting that all’s well that ends well.
