Everton have been tipped to eventually complete the signing of Tyler Dibling from Everton for below the £40million they recently offered.

The Toffees halted their pursuit of the 19-year-old after becoming frustrated at Southampton, who were refusing to negotiate below the asking price.

However, on 13 August, Football Insider revealed that Everton could still be interested in a move for Dibling later in the window.

This is despite Jack Grealish’s loan switch from Manchester City to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which was confirmed earlier this week.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that when David Moyes’ side go back in for Dibling, they will be able to negotiate a lower price.

This article contains exclusive comment from Keith Wyness, former Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen CEO.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that if the Toffees go in for the Saints winger again, the deal will get done at the £40m price tag they have already offered, or even below that.

Everton have had a number of bids for Dibling rejected by Southampton, who are currently holding out for a fee around the £50m mark.

However, Wyness thinks that the South Coast side have played their hand too hard, which could benefit Moyes’ side.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I did say before that I thought it was too expensive for Tyler Dibling.

If anything, they may even play harder ball now because I think Southampton have seen that there doesn’t appear to be a big auction going on for Dibling right now.

“Southampton may have played their hand a little bit too hard.

“Certainly, Everton are now standing away from the deal.

They may go back in eventually, but I don’t see them going back just yet.”

Meanwhile, Everton have agreed a deal to hire Man City recruitment chief James Smith, sources have told Football Insider.

Smith is believed to be on a three-month period of gardening leave after quitting his role as City’s director of scouting and recruitment around six weeks ago.

He is then expected to return to Everton, where he previously worked in the club’s recruitment team.

It continues the behind-the-scenes revamp at the Merseysiders under recently-appointed chief executive Angus Kinnear.
