Tyler Morton has serious chances of finally leaving Liverpool FC this summer.
Given his age and continued ambition, it’s little wonder Tyler Morton is on the radar of clubs across Europe.
The 22-year-old midfielder is understandably eager to move his career forward after another season at Liverpool in which first-team chances were few and far between under Arne Slot.
Morton was limited to just five appearances in all competitions – three in the EFL Cup, and one apiece in the FA Cup and Champions League – which left him frustrated after previously featuring regularly during loan spells.
His situation was further complicated by a shoulder injury sustained in December against Southampton.
That setback required surgery in February, ruling him out for several months and effectively ending his campaign.
The interruption not only hampered his hopes of gaining momentum in the senior side but also restricted any chance of making an impact in the latter half of the season.
As Morton now approaches a key juncture in his career, it’s clear he’s seeking an opportunity to play far more regularly – most likely away from Anfield.
On Tuesday, the Times reported that Olympique Lyon contacted Liverpool over a deal for the 22-year-old.
Now Loïc Tanzi of L’Equipe has revealed that the Ligue 1 side have already finalized personal terms with Morton:
“Olympique Lyonnais are in talks with Liverpool in the hope of signing Tyler Morton,” he reported.
“OL have already reached a contractual agreement with the defensive midfielder, who is under contract with the Reds until June 2026.”
It is then suggested that the two clubs are yet to come to an agreement on the transfer fee:
“Negotiations are not progressing for the moment.
Liverpool are asking for €9 million, excluding bonuses, to let go of their player currently in pre-season in Southeast Asia.”
“A sum too high, for the moment, for the Lyon management”.
Speaking on the Asia tour, the academy graduate all but confirmed he wanted a move away, saying:
“I’m looking for game time, simple as that really,” he told The Redmen TV at the weekend.
“Last season was tough for game time for myself?
It was a big learning year for myself.”
“So, I learned a lot last year off players, manager, and stuff, but now I’m ready to play.”
