Tyrique George could leave Chelsea this summer as Enzo Maresca’s men close in on moves for both Alejandro Garnacho and Xavi Simons.

The 19-year-old made 26 appearances for the Blues across all competitions last term, notching three goals and five assists, including one goal in two Club World Cup outings.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are interested in Garnacho as his current club, Manchester United, want to part company with the Argentina international.

The West London club have already strengthened their options on the wing by signing both Jamie Gittens and Estevao, decreasing George’s chances of enjoying regular game time.

Garnacho’s arrival would spell further bad news for George, while Chelsea are closing in on signing Simons.

Like Maresca’s current star man, Cole Palmer, Simons can operate effectively both out wide and from a central role.

Meanwhile, during Football London‘s live Q&A [21 August], Bobby Vincent was asked: “What is happening with Tyrique George?

Is he likely to leave if Garnacho and Simons both join?”

Vincent replied: “Yeah, I can definitely envisage that.

George wants to play regular football and if they both join, it does block his pathway even more.

“There are numerous clubs keeping an eye on his situation as it could be one that opens up in the future.”

Football Insider verdict

George was able to display his attacking talents even though he made just one Premier League start for Maresca’s side last season.

His performances across all competitions last term suggested the teenager would enjoy more game time this campaign.

However, the previous additions of both Estevao and Gittens, as well as the increasingly imminent acquisitions of both Garnacho and Simons, have meant that George is surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Therefore, for the sake of his development, the winger would be better served by leaving Chelsea, either on loan or permanently, before the transfer window closes.

George made more appearances in the Conference League than in any other competition last term, but now that the West Londoners are in the Champions League, the 19-year-old would be unlikely to be handed minutes in Europe if he remains in Maresca’s squad.

Contrastingly, the winger could enjoy more game time for a club that boast less lofty ambitions than Chelsea.
