Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back and their chances of signing one improve day by day.
The Reds might be building a super team ready to compete in all competitions, but it is not quite finished yet and Arne Slot still has a few pieces left of his puzzle.
A striker, winger and a centre-back are the three main areas that he wants to improve, with the latter being one that has been needed for a while.
Now, with Jarell Quansah leaving and Ibrahima Konate’s future more uncertain than ever, the Reds need a player in this position more than ever.
Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is a name being linked due to the Englishman having just one year left on his current contract, suggesting they could benefit by getting him at a cut-price.
The chances of signing him this summer have also just massively improved after Palace’s latest blow, with Guehi now perhaps more inclined to depart.

The south London club have had a season to remember after winning the first major trophy in their history, with this securing them a place in the Europa League, or at least it normally should.
However, due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules, they are at risk of not competing as their co-owner, John Textor, also co-owns French club Lyon, as both are not allowed to play in the same competition.

Lyon’s relegation to Ligue 2 due to financial implications gave Palace hope that they would be allowed to play, but their relegation has been rescinded, meaning they will likely be in the competition next season.

Granted, it is a very confusing situation but Palace’s chances of playing in the Europa League are very slim if Lyon compete, meaning this decision is the worst possible thing for the Eagles.
For Liverpool, however, this might be quietly beneficial as Guehi might push more for a move away to be able to compete on the biggest stages, something the Reds can certainly offer him.
The Englishman’s top priority next season is to play enough football to be able to prove why Thomas Tuchel should take him to the World Cup, and playing in the Champions League for the Premier League champions is the best way to do this.
Former England manager Gareth Southgate labelled Guehi as “exceptional” back in July last year following his incredible Euros performance, so he will be very keen to show that he can do it again under different management.
Liverpool will need a centre-back at some point and it will likely be sooner rather than later, making the opportunity to sign Guehi coming at the perfect time.
He is relatively young, hugely experienced and Premier League-proven, three traits that make him perfect for a switch to Anfield.
As well as this, he will be cheaper than many other options they are looking at due to his contract situation, with RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba costing £79m, for example.
The Reds also need homegrown players to fill up some places within the squad after selling the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Quansah, making Guehi even more of an attractive prospect.
A centre-back will very likely come through the door this summer, whether that be one for the future or a ready-made option is yet to be seen, but right now, all the signs point towards bringing in Guehi.
