Man City supporters are not buying Pep Guardiola’s quotes in the media about exit-linked Savinho’s injury setback.

Mick Brown told Football Insider that Savinho wants to join Tottenham this summer, as talks continue between the Premier League rivals over a possible move ahead of 1 September.

The 21-year-old only joined Man City in July 2024, notching three goals and 11 assists in 48 games during his first campaign with the Citizens, but fans are now expecting him to depart before the new season.

No thanks to Guardiola, the sense that the Brazilian’s days at the Etihad Stadium are numbered has only grown stronger, coming out of the 3-0 friendly win over Palermo with an injury worry.

He was expected to become one of the next up-and-coming talents under the Catalan, being given the chance to shine for the Premier League giants, but that journey appears to be coming to an end already.

There are multiple high-profile players still linked with exits, such as Ederson, due to James Trafford‘s arrival, Ilkay Gundogan, Claudio Echeverri, and Nottingham Forest-bound James McAtee.

Speaking to the media, quoted by Simon Bajkowski on X (15 August), Guardiola said: “Savinho is injured from Palermo.

All the players are here, and I want them.”

The 21-year-old finished the 3-0 win over Palermo, even picking up a second-half assist for Tijjani Reijnders‘ first goal of the evening, so it is a surprise to many to see the winger injured.

Due to the surprise, supporters instead believe that Savinho is closing in on a move to Spurs, and with all the surrounding rumours, it could just be a matter of time before a deal is agreed.

Players can often pick up mysterious “injuries” when being strongly linked with a move away, and supporters certainly believe this is the case in the situation at the Etihad.

One fan said, “So, he’s definitely off,” after Guardiola’s pre-match comments, as another called the manager an “ugly liar,” while a third supporter said it all “sounds like a cover-up”.

With just over two weeks remaining until the summer transfer window slams shut, it will quickly become clear what Savinho’s future holds, whether that be at Man City or Tottenham.
