Enzo Maresca appears to have left Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer stunned by the transfer business done by Chelsea over the last few weeks.

Chelsea lifted the Club World Cup over the summer months, surprising Champions League winners PSG in the final over in America, before returning to the Premier League with a bang.

The Blues are currently sitting second in the league table after three games, scoring seven goals and conceding just one, with a much-changed squad from the one that featured last season.

Although Liam Delap picked up a new injury against Fulham, the signings of Joao Pedro, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, and Facundo Buonanotte have softened the blow at Stamford Bridge.

The main talking point for the Blues, however, has been their outgoings over the summer transfer window.

Ben Chilwell has joined Strasbourg as one of the latest moves, joining Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku out the exit doors.

While supporters are excited for a plethora of new stars to feature for the Blues, Lineker and Shearer could not help but comment on the club’s outgoing transfer strategy this summer.

“Chelsea have brought in a lot of money, haven’t they?

Nkunku for £36million, Tyrique George to Fulham for £22million, as well as players who left earlier in the window,” Lineker said on The Rest is Football podcast (2 September).

He continued: “No one buys and sells quite like Chelsea.

It’s a record for transfers out – a total of £300million for Chelsea,” to which Shearer simply replied: “It’s unbelievable, isn’t it?”

“Their business, and what they do in terms of shifting players on and bringing more in, it’s incredible, it really is.”

Outcast players, such as Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka, Renato Veiga, Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Noni Madueke, Djordje Petrovic, and Joao Felix, have all found new homes.

That many exits in a single window is bound to create funds, which explains the number of new signings for the Blues, but £300million is still an outstanding figure for a single club.

Financial expert Kieran Maguire praised Chelsea after securing deals for Pedro and Gittens earlier in the window, and their business has only gotten better towards the transfer deadline.

Of course, Delap’s new injury caused some panic, especially with Jackson still attempting to join Bayern Munich on loan, but that is also where more of the Blues’ money has come from.

The initial loan deal is worth £15million, and with the move including an obligation to buy for £70.5million [Sky Sports], it is no wonder that Chelsea have broken a record for sales this summer.

Maresca likely has more business to do once the January transfer window rolls around, but for now, the manager will be focused on getting the most out of his current squad.
