Graham Potter is ‘bang under pressure’ at West Ham United following a miserable start to the new Premier League season.

That’s the view of Southampton legend and former England forward Matt Le Tissier, who has analysed the Hammers boss’s predicament exclusively for Football Insider.

Potter was thrust into the hot seat in January, but has won just five of his 21 games in charge of the East London club so far.

Things have gone from bad to worse at the start of this season, with West Ham losing 3-0 and 5-1 to Sunderland and Chelsea, respectively, to sit bottom after two games – as one of just two pointless teams and with a -7 goal difference.

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Potter has quickly become the favourite to be the first Premier League manager to lose his job this season.

West Ham have looked toothless in attack, with their only goal a powerful effort from distance by Lucas Paqueta, which Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez could have done better with.

And things have been no better at the other end, with the Hammers conceding at least three more goals than any other team across the opening two matches.

For Le Tissier, Potter will be gone soon unless he can inspire a swift and unlikely turnaround.

“Two poor defeats very early on.

[He’s] put himself bang under pressure, which I suspected might have happened,” Le Tissier told Football Insider.

“But he’s going to have to turn things around pretty quickly, because as we know at West Ham, you don’t get a lot of time.”

Football Insider verdict

Managerial futures are rarely decided by an EFL Cup second-round tie, but that could be the case on Tuesday as West Ham travel to Wolves — whose manager, Vitor Pereira, is also under immense pressure.

After that, West Ham are away at Nottingham Forest and at home to an in-form Tottenham side, before hosting Crystal Palace and going to an Everton side who have just won their first game at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Things really aren’t getting any easier for Potter, who will be wondering where his next points in the Premier League are going to come from.

Two games in is no time to be making rash decisions or sacking someone in panic.

And Potter is a quality manager who has the ability to turn things around at the London Stadium.

But as Le Tissier mentions, you don’t get much time at West Ham; from supporters or the powers that be at the club.

Potter will be well aware of what he’s now up against and will feel the grip tightening.
