Federico Chiesa has been regularly linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer.
Accumulating just 466 minutes on the pitch for the Reds last season, it appeared that going into this summer transfer window, his time on Merseyside would be cut short after just one year.
The Italian was the subject of persistent interest from Serie A clubs, and a return seemed to be the eventual conclusion, but nothing was ever close to being finalised.
Chiesa had a mixed pre-season and despite scoring in a 5-1 win over Stoke City, he did not then travel with the squad on the evening of that game to Asia with the rest of the Liverpool squad.
A decision that appeared to demonstrate the end of Chiesa’s time at Liverpool, it is now known that his fortunes have changed drastically.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Federico Chiesa is now considered “unsellable” by Liverpool, which has been communicated to the winger during a direct meeting with Arne Slot.
An exit for the Italian this summer has now been ruled out.
Federico Chiesa scored the winning goal on Friday in Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
His first ever Premier League goal and it could be a sign of him turning over a new leaf at Liverpool.
It appears that there is now a mutual feeling between Slot and Chiesa that he can still prove his worth in England.
Following the match on Friday, Chiesa had some kind words for his head coach.
He said: “My goal is also dedicated to Arne Slot!
Even if I get only ten or fifteen minutes, I must show I’m ready and able to do my best in order to play with this team.”
On top of that, Chiesa was adamant following the game that his wish was no longer to leave Liverpool.
“I’m very happy at Liverpool
I will speak to the club but I want to stay here and fight to win many trophies!”
“It took me one year to score in the Premier League but as we say in Italian: better late than never.”
