Liverpool wrapped up a deal for Valencia’s No.1 Giorgi Mamadarshvili last summer before sending him back to the club on loan, but it seems they now have their eyes on another player who represents the La Liga side.

Liverpool’s defensive department has been a big talking point in recent weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s early release from his contract gained Liverpool £10m, and the club were quick to move on from the English right-back with the announcement of Jeremie Frimpong’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen confirmed.

The club could be looking into the market for a new centre-back sooner than they had wished, with Ibrahima Konate’s time at Anfield up next summer, unless they club reach an agreement on an extension but as of writing this talks continue to stall.

On top of Konate’s potential exit, Liverpool will have to come to terms with the idea of finding a top young talent who is up to the task of becoming the long-term successor to the ageing Virgil van Dijk.

The player in question is 20-year-old Valencia centre-back Christhian Mosquera.

He has quickly emerged as a key figure for the La Liga side and as a result now has five clubs expressing interest, with Liverpool now joining the list according to CaughtOffside.

Valued in the region of £25m, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and West Ham complete the list of other Premier League clubs monitoring the centre-back with RB Leipzig also keen on him.

CaughtOffside understands that the player and his representatives feel that at this stage of his career he would be better suited for a switch to the Bundesliga rather than the Premier League.

A switch to the biggest league in the world in the early stages of a football career could be too much pressure and RB Leipzig have a well-documented history of recruiting and developing some of the world’s best young players and turning them into stars.

However, Liverpool are now in the hat for the defender, having entered the race for Mosquera’s services and he could provide the answer to the growing concern over Konate’s long-term future at the club.
