Liverpool stars were quick to react after the club made an announcement regarding Andy Robertson, at a time when his future had been under speculation earlier in the window.

Liverpool have started their title defence strongly with back-to-back wins, needing late goals to edge past both Bournemouth and Newcastle.

One player who hasn’t been in the starting XI for either fixture is Robertson, whose situation has been clouded by uncertainty following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.

Liverpool signed Kerkez earlier this summer and has sparked talk that the Reds were preparing for life beyond their Scottish international.

Football Insider reported in June Liverpool were ready to listen to offers for Robertson, with Atletico Madrid showing firm interest.

While speculation has since cooled, the rumours surrounding his future have remained.

Now, Liverpool’s latest announcement about the defender has prompted a wave of reaction from his teammates and supporters alike, underlining just how important Robertson continues to be to the squad.

Despite uncertainty over his future and limited minutes so far this season, Arne Slot has made the decision to appoint Robertson as Liverpool’s new vice-captain, under Virgil van Dijk.

The club announced the news on their official Instagram account, with Robertson later resharing it on his own story.

The post quickly attracted reaction from teammates including Van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Kerkez, who all showed their support by liking the post.

Earlier in the summer, speculation grew around a possible exit after former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Robertson would be open to joining Atletico Madrid.

However, no move materialised, and the full-back now looks set to stay at Anfield.

With Kostas Tsimikas close to leaving Liverpool, the Reds would risk being left short at left-back if Robertson were to depart.

Slot’s decision to hand him the vice-captaincy strongly suggests that the Scot remains central to his plans.

Alongside squad reshuffles at left-back, Liverpool are still pushing to strengthen their attack before the window closes.

Transfer expert Indy Kaila told Football Insider that Liverpool plan to approach Aston Villa for Morgan Rogers if Harvey Elliott completes a move to RB Leipzig.

With Luis Diaz already departing and Elliott potentially on his way out, Rogers has been identified as a replacement capable of filling roles across the frontline.
