Liverpool are known for promoting their academy players to their first team as often as possible.

The Reds’ academy is one of the best in the country, with players such as Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Trent Alexander-Arnold all managing to make their way through the ranks.

However, although Liverpool’s academy is impressive, they still have to bring players such as Florian Wirtz in to help add that little bit of extra quality to their starting XI.

This comes after the midfielder played to the best of his ability for England at the Under-21 Euros and more than proved his worth.

Last season, the 22-year-old wasn’t given as much playing time as he deserved, but after a fan called into talkSPORT and said that Elliott could be worth the same as Wirtz if he had played regularly over the last couple of years, Darren Bent gave his thoughts on the situation.

“There’s an argument for that because I think technically, Harvey Elliott is a very good player,” he said.

“As you said, unfortunately for himself, he just hasn’t been able to nail down a permanent spot in that Liverpool team.

“As much as it would probably pain him to leave a side like Liverpool, I think the best thing for him would be to go elsewhere, preferably abroad and playing week in and week out.”

Most football fans know that the Premier League is the pinnacle of the sport.

A move abroad for Elliott would no doubt take the pressure off his shoulders, but in another sense, he wouldn’t be seen each week by many England fans, which could be detrimental.

If Elliott wants to make the England squad one day, he needs to stay in the Premier League and prove to the world that he has what it takes.
