Victor Lindelof is confident he will make a speedy recovery from his back problem ahead of Manchester United’s clash with bitter rivals Liverpool.

The 25-year-old defender felt back pain during United’s goalless draw with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League and subsequently missed the side’s 1-0 defeat at Newcastle on Sunday.

Academy graduate Axel Tuanzebe came in to replace Lindelof and was one of the few positives for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in a horrendous team performance at St James’ Park.

Despite the injury, Lindelof joined up with the Sweden national side for their Euro 2020 qualifying matches against Malta and Spain.

Though Lindelof is yet to take part in full training, he believes he should be fit enough to face Malta on Saturday night.

‘It happened on Thursday. I had a game and it seized up,’ Lindelof told Swedish channel TV4.

‘I haven’t been able to train or take part in the last club game, so that’s it, but it gets better and better every day.

‘I get good treatment here and good help with the national team.’

Lindelof appears confident he will be back to full fitness in time for United’s clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool at Old Trafford on October 20.

‘I know what it is. I know my body,’ he added.

‘Do I play? It’s up to Janne [Andersson] and obviously up to my body. If I feel it’s holding up, I want to play both matches if Janne wants it.

‘Today, I went on the pitch a bit and tested different movements with the ball and such.

‘We’ll see how it feels when I wake up tomorrow and if there’s any difference, but hopefully I can join the team tomorrow, but we’ll see.’
