Former Liverpool striker El-Haji Diouf described his old side as a "great team" as he addressed the possibility of Victor Osimhen moving to Anfield.
Osimhen, 26, is expected to leave Napoli this summer, and he has been tentatively linked with a move to Liverpool as a possible replacement for Darwin Nunez, who could move in the opposite direction.
Liverpool is open to a new striker signing should Nunez leave after three underwhelming years on Merseyside, with Alexander Isak the club's dream signing.
However, Liverpool would almost certainly have to shatter the British transfer record in order to sign Isak — having committed to doing so once already this summer with the acquisition of Florian Wirtz.

TEAMtalk reported earlier this week that Liverpool had entered the race to sign Osimhen instead of Isak as he will be available for a much lower transfer fee.
It was claimed that Liverpool had opened a dialogue with Napoli over signing Osimhen, with the possibility of a swap dealing involving Nunez and/or Federico Chiesa also mooted.
If Osimhen does move to Liverpool, Diouf believes he would be a success.

Osimhen is said to be eager to play for a club that is competing in the Champions League and he is open to moving to Liverpool, but his salary demands could be an issue.
The Nigerian is reported to want his Napoli salary matched at whichever club he joins; Osimhen is believed to net around $11.5 million with the Serie A club, with his gross salary close to double that amount.
Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are Liverpool's current highest-paid players, with each player grossing in excess of $25 million each year.
New signing Florian Wirtz became the club's third highest-paid player earlier this month, banking a gross annual salary of around $14 milllion plus bonuses.
