Ian St John was honoured with a period of applause at Anfield ahead of Liverpool's Premier League fixture with Chelsea on Thursday.

The Reds legend sadly passed away on Monday evening at the age of 82 following illness.

St John made 425 appearances and scored 118 goals for the club after arriving from Motherwell in 1961.

In a decade-long spell at Anfield under the management of Bill Shankly, the striker netted an iconic winner to secure Liverpool its first ever FA Cup as they beat Leeds United 2-1 in the 1965 final.

The Scot was a central figure for Shankly's side and helped the club gain promotion to the First Division in his debut campaign, before they went on to lift the top-flight crown in 1964 and 1966.
