Virgil van Dijk and Hugo Ekitike support Rio Ngumoha after Liverpool ace's two-word update

Rio Ngumoha became Liverpool's youngest-ever player to appear in European competition on Tuesday night.

The winger replaced Florian Wirtz in the 74th minute of the Reds' dramatic 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

He was 17 years and 21 days old when doing so.

This officially overtakes the record previously set only eight months ago by Reds youngster Trey Nyoni in last season's final league phase fixture against PSV Eindhoven, who in turn had broken a record that had stood for almost 33 years.

Ngumoha helped to influence Liverpool's late attacking onslaught that brought about the corner kick that Virgil van Dijk was able to convert his match-winning header from in stoppage time.

Now the teenager has shared a new update to his Instagram followers to commemorate the occasion.

Simply, he wrote: "UCL debut," alongside some pictures of him in action.

Past and present Reds teammates Alexis Mac Allister, Conor Bradley, Curtis Jones, Hugo Ekitike, Jayden Danns, Lewis Koumas, Oakley Cannonier, Ryan Gravenberch, Tyler Morton, Nyoni, and Van Dijk, all liked the post.

Ngumoha only arrived on Merseyside last summer from Chelsea's academy, began life in Liverpool's Under-18s, progressed to the Under-21s, and just as quickly has fashioned a home in Arne Slot's senior squad.

He has taken this club-record milestone in his stride, just as he did his 100th-minute winner in stoppage time of Liverpool's 3-2 Premier League victory over Newcastle United at St.

He has a good group [here at Liverpool] and we always try to speak with him – and the manager also speaks to him, so he just needs to stay humble and work and we will see."

Ngumoha could eye his first competitive start of the 2024/25 campaign in next Tuesday's Carabao Cup third round clash with Southampton at Anfield, should Slot choose to rotate his squad.
