Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has fired a message to Jarell Quansah amid links over a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds defender is set to be in action for England U21s when they kick-off their European Championship defence in Slovakia on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old was selected in Lee Carsley's squad for the upcoming tournament in Slovakia - alongside fellow Liverpool teammate Harvey Elliott.

Quansah offers a wealth of experience for the Three Lions after winning the Premier League at Anfield, as well as picking up a senior call-up during the former Republic of Ireland international's temporary spell in the hot-seat.

England kick-off their campaign against Czech Republic before they take on Slovenia and Germany, hoping to pick up enough points to see them through to the knockout stages.

Ahead of their curtain raiser on Thursday night (8pm), Quansah posted to his social media.

He wrote: "Looking forward to the Euro-U21 starting today.

"We are ready."

The post quickly prompted over 24,000 likes and a host of support from his Liverpool teammates.

Curtis Jones - who won the competition with the Three Lions last time out - commented: "Let's go!

Quansah goes into the competition with his future under the spotlight amid reports of interest from Leverkusen.

According to The Athletic, Erik ten Hag's side are rumoured to be considering a move for the Liverpool youngster, as part of their squad rebuild this summer.

Already this summer, last year's Bundesliga runners-up have bid farewell to Jonathan Tah and Jeremie Frimpong, who made the move to the Reds.

Liverpool are in talks over a record-breaking move for Florian Wirtz with negotiations ongoing for the 22-year-old.

The above outlet claimed on Wednesday that a pursuit for Quansah would be different to the current discussions surrounding Wirtz with the defender valued in excess of £40million.
