Virgil van Dijk has once more encouraged Liverpool supporters to make a spectacle of things as the city gets set to host a famous trophy parade later this month.

Having officially clinched a second Premier League title in five years on April 27 when they beat Tottenham 5-1 to go 15 points clear of Arsenal with just four games to play, the Reds will get their hands on the trophy itself when they end the campaign at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, May 25.

A city-wide parade is planned for the following day (Monday, May 26), with the five-hour event set to begin at Allerton Maze, in the south of the city, before travelling northbound on Queens Drive towards the Childwall Fiveways roundabout and then on to the Rocket flyover.

The Liverpool players will also be celebrating along Queens Drive, Mill Bank and West Derby Road before turning on to Leeds Street via Islington and then The Strand, where the most memorable images are likely to be captured.

The route finishes at Blundell Street and the 15-kilometre route will begin at 2.30pm on Monday, May 26.

After 750,000 people turned out for the 2019 parade to mark the club's Champions League success over Tottenham in Madrid, it's estimated that the city could welcome up to one million for the 20th league title tour.

Unlike 2019 and 2005, when the Reds were welcomed back from winning the Champions League from other European cities, by May 26, supporters will have known, officially, for a month that their team will be champions, affording them more time and space to plan their routes into the region itself.

As a result, it means the number of followers at the 2025 parade will likely be increased.

And as he cast his eye towards what will be a day to remember later this month, Van Dijk has once more urged fans to come dressed in red for the event, which was something that helped create striking scenes at Anfield against Spurs less than a fortnight ago.

“Hopefully it will be even better than what we had after the Champions League final [in 2022] and I already encouraged everyone to wear red in the last game," Van Dijk said.

"So keep doing that for the rest of the season because everyone saw how amazing it was.

“For so many fans and people that have been going to Anfield for so many years it was one of their best days ever so hopefully the 25th will top that and the parade will be even more crazy than ever and there will be even more people coming from around the world to be in Liverpool to come and be with us."

The parade will be the first since the club were whisked around the city less than 24 hours after losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid in Paris three years ago.

Despite losing 1-0 at the Stade de France, Liverpool still took the decision to mark their Carabao Cup and FA Cup successes of that season, and while the scenes were credited with acting as a major pick-me-up for a despondent squad on the day itself, Van Dijk is hoping for more widespread scenes of joy later this month.

He added: “It was a bit strange [in 2022].

What I said already, I encouraged everyone that supports Liverpool all around the world to come and celebrate an amazing year in the Premier League that we’ve had.
