The Italian, who endured a tough debut season with just 14 appearances, finally enjoyed a moment that may mark a turning point in his Reds career.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot praised Chiesa’s impact and the Anfield crowd showed exactly what they thought of him.

But it wasn’t just the supporters celebrating.

Club captain Virgil van Dijk revealed just how much Chiesa means to the dressing room.

Speaking to LFCTV after the game, Van Dijk said:

“He works so hard, he’s a great character, we all love him.

“Very pleased for him, especially on a night like this when there are so many things on everyone’s mind, because you can’t escape that.”

The Dutchman stressed that the whole squad celebrated Chiesa’s moment, adding:

“I’m pleased for him, pleased for the team that we managed to get the three points, now we move on.”

Despite limited minutes last season, Van Dijk explained that Chiesa has integrated brilliantly into the squad and continues to earn respect with his determination.

Chiesa also opened up after his match-winning goal, admitting he feels right at home in Liverpool.

He told LFCTV: “I love the club.

I think I’m playing for one of the best clubs in the world.

“I feel the passion of the fans, I feel the energy, playing at Anfield is mesmerizing, just incredible, and I’m so happy to be here.”

The forward acknowledged the fans’ constant support, with his song ringing out during games.

This goal may either be the start of his true Liverpool career or a perfect farewell.
