Virgil van Dijk has sent a heartfelt message to those affected by the car incident at the end of Liverpool's open top bus parade on Monday.

A 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area was arrested following the incident after a car was driven into a crowd on Water Street.

Forty-seven people were injured after supporters had gathered to celebrate the Liverpool's record-equalling 20th championship.



Of the 27 who were taken to hospital, two people, including one child, have suffered serious injuries.



Van Dijk was on the coach as the Liverpool squad toured the city on a day of celebration for the red half of Merseyside.

And following the incident, Liverpool captain has now sent a message to victims on social media, declaring: 'We are all with you'.

The Netherlands international posting a picture of the Liver Building surrounded in red smoke during the parade on his Instagram Story.

Meanwhile, he wrote: "My thoughts are with everyone affected.

"Praying for a speedy recovery for everyone who suffered injuries.

"We are all with you."

Van Dijk then finished his post with a love heart emoji.

The Reds captain was the second member of Arne Slot's squad to speak publicly about the incident, following on from Joe Gomez.

Liverpool's longest-serving player had reposted the club's official statement on his own Instagram Story as he wrote: "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected right now.

YNWA."

A number of high-profile figures have also reacted to the incident on social media, including the likes of Jamie Carragher, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Jurgen Klopp and Steven Gerrard.
